Mr. Barney Thomas, of Vernon, AL, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at his home at the age of 88.

Mr. Thomas was born February 4, 1935, in Lamar County, AL, to the late Purvey Thomas and Amy Hester Thomas.  He served in the US Army and was a member of Oakes Chapel Baptist Church.  He was also a member of Vernon Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and was retired from NACCO.  Mr. Thomas liked to fish, go camping, and working on lawnmowers as long as his health permitted.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Pearl Shackelford and Biddie Lou Galloway; his brother and sister-in-law, Banks and Doris Thomas; and his nephew, Joel Thomas.

Funeral services will be Friday, December 1, at 1:00 PM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Bro. Joe Moseley officiating.  Burial will follow at Fellowship Baptist Cemetery.  Visitation will be 12:00-1:00 prior to the services.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Trimm, John Trimm, Mike Thomas, Jackie Thomas, Scott Howard, and Rod Masoumi.

Mr. Thomas leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Faye Thomas, of Vernon, AL; his son, Phillip Thomas, of Vernon, AL; two sisters-in-law, Liffie Lee of Vernon, AL and Nell (Wayne) Trimm of Northport, AL; his step-brother, John (Dot) Andrews; and his nieces and nephews.
