Mrs. Betty Jean Barnes, age 81 of Vernon, AL, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018, at Generations of Vernon.
Mrs. Barnes was born January 10, 1937, in Lamar Co., AL, to the late John Thomas and Mary Amanda Greer Thornley. She was a homemaker and was married to the late Bryan Barnes. Mrs. Barnes was also preceded in death by four sisters, Nina Mae Monroe (Leonard), Jimmie Nell Cribbs (Vester Lee), Laura White (Rex), and Joanne Yerby (Charles), and one brother, James Thornley (Ann).
Funeral services will be Monday at 1:00 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Mike Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 12:00-1:00 at the church prior to the service.
Survivors include one son, Edward (Lytheda) Barnes of Tuscaloosa, AL; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Mike) Rogers of Madison, AL; four grandchildren, Paige (Cam) Dorsey, Patrick Bryan (Jackie) Barnes, Caleb (Kaitlyn) Rogers, and Hannah (Jacob) Winkles; two great-granddaughters, Loa Harper and Della Monroe Dorsey; one brother, Guy Charles (Buddy) Thornley of Waco, TX; and a large number of nieces and nephews.
