Mr. Carl Douglas Estes, age 80 of Vernon, AL, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018, at his residence.

Mr. Estes was born September 11, 1937, in Lamar Co., AL, to the late Orlen and Mozelle Estes.  He served in the U.S Air Force and worked for the Alabama State Troopers.  Mr. Estes was an avid Alabama fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Tivie Estes; three brothers, Glenn Estes, Jimmy Estes, and Howard Estes; and three sisters, Lillian Bates, Nylene Drake, and Betty Ruth Estes.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home with Terry McAdams officiating.  He will lie in state 1:00-2:00.  Burial will follow at Furnace Hill.  Visitation will be Wednesday evening 4:00-7:00.

Active pallbearers will be Drew Estes, James McGee, Brandon Stephens, Gary Hogan, Tony Perkins, and Ed Pope.

Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert Eads, Mike Hardin, Joe Dillon, Furman Bozeman, Don Cockren, Joel Camp, Thurman Stephens, Richard Couch, Jerry Elliott, Clarence Terry, all his fellow Alabama State Troopers, and FOP members.

Survivors include one daughter, Jan (Raymond) Colles of Vernon, AL; one son, Doug (Sheila) Estes of Vernon, AL; his special friend, Mary Perkins of Steens, MS; three grandchildren, Heather (James) McGee, Drew Estes, and Allison McDaniel; three great-grandchildren, Berkley McDaniel, Estes McGee, and Marek McGee; one brother, Terry (Sandra) Estes of Millport, AL; and a host of nieces and nephews.
