Mr. Charles Curtis Godfrey, age 78 of Vernon, AL, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014, at Fayette Medical Center-DCH.
Mr. Godfrey was born August 18, 1935, in Walker Co., AL to the late John and Lilly Harrison Godfrey. He served in the U.S. Army and National Guard and was a self employed contractor. Mr. Godfrey was a member of the Vernon First Baptist Church, Vernon Fire Department, Mustang Club and enjoyed gardening and buying and selling cars. In addition to his parents, Mr. Godfrey was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Sue Godfrey, and four sisters.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 8, at the Vernon First Baptist Church with Clyde Stevens, Phillip Glasgow, and David Woods officiating. He will lie in state at the church 1-2. Burial will follow at Vernon City Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening 6-8 at the church. The family will recieve friends Friday morning at 10:00 at Mr. Godfrey's home.
Mr. Godfrey is survived his sister, Ruth McReynolds of Millport, AL; his brother, James Godfrey of Theodore, AL; three sisters-in-laws, Gayle Weems of Millport, AL, Margaret (Ellis) Pearce of Hamilton, AL, and Glenda Moore of Scottsboro, AL; his adopted son, Phillip (Marguetta) Glasgow; his god daughter, Jade (Blake) Bostick; two god grandchildren, Crawford and Ivy Bostick; and a host of nieces and nephews.
