Obituary

Mr. John Clyde Elliott, born on February 8, 1963, in Fayette, AL, to Johnnie V. and Audie Elliott, passed away October 17, 2024.

Military funeral services will be Monday, October 21, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Bro. James Godsey officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fellowship Baptist Cemetery where he will be laid to rest where he will be laid to rest beside his wife, Jeanette Elliott.  Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Mike Crowe, Tony Sorrells, Jeff Jones, Jeff Guyton, Terry Perkins, and Marty Gottwald.

Clyde leaves behind a legacy of faith, music, and service.  As a young teenager, Clyde was saved and baptized, and he played and sang in a gospel group, becoming well known for his music talents, especially on the accordion.

Despite facing personal struggles with alcohol, depression, and PTSD, Clyde found his way back to Christ, rededicating his life and assuring those around him of his faith.  He told anyone who asked that he made things right with God and would one day be going to his heavenly home.

Clyde's life was a testament of the scripture Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."

At 16, he began working at Vernon Nursing Home and later graduated from the University of Alabama as a paramedic.  He served as an ambulance driver for Lamar and Fayette Counties, and later worked as a security guard at Golden Triangle Regional Hospital in Columbus, MS before spending 21 years at OMNI in Vernon.

A 1981 graduate of Lamar County High School, Clyde enjoyed hunting, playing music on a variety of instruments, racing at Columbus Dirt Track, and fishing at the family pond.  He cherished the time he spent with his grandpa Haston Guyton, helping farm the garden fields, hunting and running dogs, and coon hunting.

Clyde always considered his dad, Johnnie V. Elliott, to be his best friend, and they did many things together.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie V. and Audie Guyton Elliott; his grandparents, John Henry and Virgie Pennington Elliott, and Clyde Haston and Ovell Robertson Guyton; and his wife, Jeanette Channell Elliott.

He is survived by his sister, Angie Elliott Barry of Vernon, AL; two daughters, Shannon (Dusty) McCain of Lexington, MO and Kimberly (Alesha) Torbert of Prattville, AL; his aunt, Janice Sorrells of Vernon, AL; two step-daughters; two nieces; and four grandchildren, Amelia, Trillion, Ellie, and Blakelyn; and a host of cousins.

Clyde's life was a journey of faith, resilience, and love, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family sends a special thank you to Generations of Vernon, Hospice of North West Alabama in Winfield, and VA Home Care Team.
