Mr. Donald (Don) Ray Johnson, age 69 of Vernon, AL, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Mr. Johnson was born July 1, 1947, in Vernon, AL, to the late John Richard and Dorothy Mae (Rogers) Johnson. He served in the United States Army in Germany during the Vietnam War, working as a mechanic. He worked 40yrs as a coal miner. He enjoyed spending his time at home gardening, grilling, restoring antique cars, riding his motorcycle, riding and caring for his horses, spending time with his grandchildren, and watching Alabama football.
Survivors include one daughter, Nikki (Randall) Price of Vernon, AL; one son, Brian Neil Johnson of Millport, AL; one brother, Paul (Gayle) Johnson of Vernon, AL; three grandchildren, Teagan, Trent, and Taylin Wheeler; one aunt, Betty Jo (Kenneth) Taylor of Vernon, AL; his good friend, Greg (Carla) Lay of Curry, AL; and a host of numerous other family and friends.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, July 23, at 11:00 from the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home in Vernon. Visitation with family and video memories will start at 10:00 am.
