Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy Raye Jones, age 93 of Columbus, MS and formerly of Vernon, AL, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Aurora Australis Lodge in Columbus.
Mrs. Jones was born June 15, 1918, in Lamar Co., AL to the late Hezzie Mervin and Annie Elizabeth Rose Anderson. She was a secretary for the Department of Human Resources.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husbands, Brooks Jones and Jack Reed; daughter, Jacklyn Reed Mayo; her parents; four brothers, Fred Anderson, Mack Anderson, Tol Anderson, and Oliver Anderson; and her sister, Elsene Yarbrough.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 at Vernon First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Bailey and Rev. Howard Johnson officiating. Graveside services will follow at Lamar Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Monday 10-11 at the church prior to the service.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter, Julia (Jeff) Holman of Columbus, MS; four grandchildre, Jack Mayo of Moody, AL, Ken Mayo of Gadsden, AL, Jake (Jennifer) Mayo of Altoona, AL, and Dana Doughty of Clearwater, FL; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
