Mr. Dupree Pennington, age 88 of Vernon, AL, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017, at Generations of Vernon.
Mr. Pennington was born August 2, 1928, in Lamar Co., AL to the late Charie and Annie Lee Pennington. He served as sheriff of Lamar Co. from 1962 to 1966 then worked as manager for Thomas Poultry till 1985. Mr. Pennington later served as mayor for the City of Vernon from 2008 to 2012. He was devoted to his family and to his church and served as deacon at the Vernon Church of Christ for a number of years. He was also a proud veteran, and proudly served in the U.S. Army and was in the Korean War. Mr. Pennington also loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Pennington was also preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Pennington; his son, Phillip Pennington; and three brothers, E.C. Pennington, Jerry Pennington, and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 in the Chapel of Chandler Funeral Home with Eddie Finch officiating. Graveside services will follow at Vernon City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday morning 10-11 prior to the service.
Survivors include one son, Darell (Charlotte) Pennington of Vernon, AL; one daughter, Wendy (Kevin) Northington of Vernon, AL; two grandsons, Nick (Kara) Pennington of Caledonia, MS and Parker (Katie-Ann) Northington of Amory, MS; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Ashton Pennington; two sisters, Elouise (Douglas) Cantrell and Grace Pennington, both of Pickens, SC; one brother, Walter (Margaret) Pennington of FL; and a host of other family and friends.
