Obituary

Mrs. Edna Earle Boman Sanders, age 106 of Vernon, AL, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014, at Generations of Vernon. Edna was born September 2, 1907, in the Mt. Pisgah Community to the late Thaddeus Augustus (Bud) and Florence Imogene (Genie) Todd Boman. She was a 1926 graduate of Lamar Co. High School, was a homemaker, and was active in church and community affairs. Edna was a faithful member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also worked with the Agricultural Census, campaigned for educational taxes, and served as a poll worker. She was a long time member of the Vernon North Extension Homemaker's Club and was elected the Extension Homemaker's Lamar Co. Woman of the Year in 1968. She was also a talented writer and author of many poems and essays, and the genealogy book, Lest We Forget--A History of the Boman, Chandler, Todd, and Morris Families of Lamar County, Alabama, published in 1989. She was also co-author of the book-in-progress, Through the Years, a history of the Sanders, Springfield, James, and Woods families of Lamar County. Edna was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, ane will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known her. Edna was married 52 years to the late Prentice Sanders, who retired after 32 years as an insurance salesman and associate mnager with Liberty National Life Insurance Company. They were both talented singers and gave generously to their time and talent to sing with quartets for literally thousands of funerals in the Lamar Co. area over a 25-30 year period from the late 1930's through the early 1960's. Prentice and Edna were inducted into the Lamar County Gospel Music Hall of Fame in September, 2003. In addition to her husband and parents, Edna was preceded in death by her brothers, Grady Boman, Perry Boman, and Curtis Schley Boman, who died in infancy; her sisters, Rama Finch, Tezzie Finch, Tennie Spann, Ottie Thompson, and Mila Ree Varnon McCullough; and her son-in-law, Robert L. Thompson. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:00 in the funeral home chapel with Glen Boman and Wayne Glass officiating. Burial will follow at Sanders Cemetey. Visitation will be Wednesday 11-1 prior to the service. Suvivors include two sons, Bobby P. (Peggy) Sanders of Auburn, AL and Jack L. (Jodie) Sanders of Huntsville, AL; her daughter, Donna S. Thompson of Fayette, AL; grandchildren, Cynthia S. (Patrick) McCarty of Anniston, AL, Alan Sanders of Roswell, GA, Shannon T. (Allan) Adress of Hope Hull, AL, Steve (Jane) Thompson of Vernon, AL, Scott (Melissa) Sanders of Harvest, AL; Gregory (Melanie) Sanders of Nashville, TN, and Barrett (Casey) Sanders of Huntsville, AL; great-grandchildren, Daniel, William, and Ethan McCarthy, Courtney Thompson Brown, Samuel Andress, Ellie and Angus Sanders, and Jackson and Nathan Sanders; great-great-grandson, Kyler Brown; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Sanders Cemetery, 1450 Beaver Creek Road, Vernon, AL 35592.
