Mr. Edward Leon White, Sr., age 83 of Vernon, AL, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS.
Mr. White was born March 4, 1930 in Okolona, MS to the late James Preston and Zella Ozell Haley White. Mr. White was a tank mechanic in the Army and an airplane mechanic at Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham. He owned and operated a construction company, was in inspector for Farmers Home Administration, and followed his dream of being a farmer until just months before his death. Mr. White loved fishing, hunting, playing cards, music, camping, traveling, and work. He was both treasurer and a deacon at Prospect Baptist Church, where he was a member for 41 years and attended for over 71 years. He was will be a remembered as a man of honesty, simplicity, and integrity.
Those who have gone on before him include his parents; his brothers, Hollis and his wife Bessie, James, Rex, Earnest, and Larry; and his sisters Opal Hopper and her husband Howard, and Wylodine and her husband Miles.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00 in the funeral home chapel with Tony Gallop and Ed White officiating. Graveside services will follow at Furnace Hill. Visitation will be Saturday 12-2 prior to the services.
Mr. White leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Winnie Chloe White; his son, Edward White, Jr. and wife Rhonda; daughter, Patti Jo Pennington and her husband Alan; grandchildren, Ginny White, Matt White and his wife Jennifer, Lance Pennington, and Amanda Odom and her husband Jimmy Lee; great-grandchildren, Leslee White, Lucas White, and Levi Odom; sisters, Lois Gallop and her husband Herchel, and Dorothy McGee; in-laws, Lillian White, Alice White, Laura White, Helon Delk, and Coy and Frances Haney; and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, church brother and sisters and friends.
