Mr. Elton McCrary was called to his eternal rest on Thursday, April 11, 2024.  He departed this life at the Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, AL.

Elton was the second offspring born to the intimate union of Mr. Elmer D. McCrary and Mrs. Mamie Ann Pennington McCrary  on February 21, 1958.  He attended Hopewell High School in Reform, AL.  Elton was a person who would help and offer his services and resources to anyone in need.  This was manifested in his moral qualities when he volunteered for the U.S. Army.  Elton was aware that volunteerism would help to stabilize our Army communities because it would contribute to enhancing the well being of our soldiers, civilians, and all families.  He served his country and defended our nation for 18 years in the U.S. Army.  Elton was deployed oversees and fought in Dessert Storm and Kuwait.  He was a proud E5 Sergeant, and a proud veteran.

Elton's life was a compilation of love, laughter, helpfulness, and generosity.  He loved his family and friends.

Elton was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer D. and Mamie Ann "Baby Doll" Pennington McCrary; two sisters, Patricia McCrary and Teresa McCrary; and one brother, Johnny Franklin Coleman.

Funeral services will be Sunday, April 14, at 3:00 PM, at Unity Grove CME Church in Reform, with Dr. Stanley McCrary officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.  Visitation will be 2:00-3:00 at the church prior to the service.

Active pallbearers will be Danny Doss, Bryon McCrary, Frederick McCrary, Eddie Lee Doss, Jonathan McCrary, and Ronnie Salters.  Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Lee Neal, Ricky Truelove, Roosevelt Bonner, Allen Wade Manning, Danny Joe Hollis, and Larry Salters.

Elton leaves to cherish his loving memory:  three sons, Jason Doss (La Jessica Johnson) of McCalla, AL, Tyson Smith of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Rakemithy "Rock" Stewart of Tuscaloosa, AL; three daughters, Quiana "Kiki" Latham (Kelvin Latham) of McCalla, AL, Kawana "Kay" Doss (Nicholas Calhoun) of Dallas, TX; and Latoya "Muff" McCrary of Tuscaloosa, AL; three sisters, Mary F. Spears and Carol J. Homes, both of Huntsville, AL, and Lucasta Manning of Northport, AL; two brothers, Billy Wayne Coleman of Vernon, AL and Terry McCrary of Reform, AL; two loving aunts, Mary Alice Webber and Ludie Bell Hollis of Vernon, AL; a very special relative, Lois Coleman West of Vernon, AL; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
