Obituary
Mr. Richard Eugene Holmes, age 69 of Vernon, AL, passed away Friday, June 6, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS.
Mr. Holmes was born September 9, 1944, in Fayette Co., AL, to the late Edward Oliver and Naomi Holmes. He served in the U.S. Army and Vietnam War and was a diesel mechanic. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, J.W. Holmes.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:00 in the funeral home chapel with Wade Peoples and John Johnson officiating. Graveside services will follow at Furnace Hill. Visitation will be Monday evening 6-8.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Holmes of Vernon, AL; his son, Michael Holmes of Vernon, AL; two daughters, Tanya Houze of Saraland, AL and Janeen Holmes of Vernon, AL; four grandchildren, Kelsey Renae Holmes, Karen Houze, Justin Houze, and Ethan Houze; six sisters, Aline Jordan, Barbara Fox, Edrid Lucas, Shirley Merchant, Shelly Lawler, and Pennie Stephens; and one brother, Jerry Holmes.
