Mrs. Eva Mae Smith Cooper, age 82 of Vernon, AL, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015, at Generations of Vernon.
Mrs. Cooper was born March 6, 1933, in Lamar Co., AL, to the late Audie and Nettie Smith. She was preceded in death by her son, Frankie Cooper, her sister, Elizabeth Glasgow, and her brother, Robert Smith.
Our mother, the angel, has gone home to be with Jesus. She lived with perfect humility, always giving, sharing her faith, and expressing hope. Her medium was love, with never a vain or selfish thought. If this life was a test, she was the ultimate example of the right answer. Alzheimers slowly stole her from us and these last years such that, in the end, all we had was an expression of child-like wonderment in her laser blue eyes. I always told her when I visited her in the nursing home, "Remember Mom, no worries, no fear, rather, Faith you're in Jesus's arms. Hope for the joy of heaven. Love in your heart always." I realize now that I was just repeating to her what she taught me about life. Now she is free to experience the full measure of Joy and Love in Heaven, neither Faith or Hope required. Heaven and we rejoice in that, amen.
Graveside services will be Sunday at Smith Cemetery with Billy Ray Adams officiating. Visitation will be Saturday evening 6-8 at the funeral home.
Survivors include by her husband, Jimmy Cooper of Vernon, AL; two sons, David (Marilyn) Cooper of Athens, AL and Dan (Samantha) Cooper of New Hope, MS; three grandchildren, Chris (Brittany) Cooper of Madison, AL, Joshua Humbers of New Hope, MS, and Jessica Humbers of New Hope, MS; one great-grandchild, Quinn Cooper of Madison, AL; one brother, Charles (Helan) Smith of Hamilton, MS, and a host of nieces and nephews.
