Mrs. Sarah Evelyn Oakes, age 96 of Vernon, AL, passed away Monday, June 11, 2018, at Fayette Long Term Care.
Mrs. Oakes was born October 9, 1921, in Lamar Co., AL, to the late John Henry and Virgie Lou Elliott. She was a graduate of Lamar County High School and retired from Vernon Manufacturing as a factory worker. Mrs. Oakes was also preceded in death by her husband, William Eldon Oakes; children of John and Hattie Hankins Elliott: Walter Elliott, Evie Merchant, Luther Elliott, Tennie Tate, and Millie Flynn; and children of John and Virgie Eiliott: Charlie Elliott, Lela Lollar, Margie Sims, Edith Leigh, Mae Oakes, Pete Elliott, and Johnny V. Elliott.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:00 in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home with Phillip Potter and Tim Milner officiating. Burial will follow at Oakes Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 12:00-2:00 prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Ben Burleson, David Lacy, Ryan Woods, Seth Seaborn, Lance Northam, and Tim Milner.
Survivors include one daughter, Dianne (Paul) Woods; one son, Wade Oakes; five granddaughters, Emily (Ben) Burleson, Amy (David) Lacy, Michelle (Shawn) Woods, Natalie (Lance) Northam, and Kristin (Tim) Milner; ten great-grandchildren, Ashley (Seth) Seaborn, Alisyn Hayes, Shelby Burleson, Ryan and Brogan Woods, Carly and Avery Northam, and Sophia, Selah, and Zoe Milner; and two great-great-grandchildren, Ross and Ryleigh Seaborn.
