Mrs. Hazel McGill Phillips, age 90 of Vernon, AL, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at Generations of Vernon.
Mrs. Phillips was born Hazel Marjorean McGill on November 8, 1923, in the Bedford Community of Lamar Co., to the late Addie Lee and Anna Bell Cribbs McGill. She was a graduate of Lamar Co. High School in Vernon and the Drauns Business School in Birmingham. In 1952, Mrs. Phillips and her husband William started the Phillips Dairy Farm, one of the first modern dairies in Lamar Co., and operated the family business until their retirement. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband William Jackson Phillips; their two daughters, Anna Gail Phillips and Beverly Phillips Lewis; and her brother, Virgil E. McGill.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:00 at New Hope Methodist Church with Roger Redus officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Satuday 12-1 at the church prior to the service.
Mrs. Philllips is survived by her son-in-law, Lee Lewis of Saltilo, MS; multiple generations of nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Elaine Broussard of Birmingham, AL.
