Mr. Horace Van Duke, Jr., age 70, of Ocean Springs, MS and formerly of Vernon, AL, passed away Friday, October 14, 2022, at Singing Rivers Hospital in Pascagoula, MS.

Mr. Duke was born January 29, 1952, in Columbus, MS, to the late Horace Van Duke, Sr. and Mattie Grace Humphreys Duke.  He served in the U.S. Navy for six years during the Vietnam War then later retired from the National Guard.  He also worked at the Columbus Air Force Base working on ejection seats.  He loved fishing, cooking, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 20, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Travis Brown and James Godsey officiating.  Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6:00-8:00 PM.

Survivors include one son, Nick (Katrina) Murphy, of Ocean Springs, MS; two brothers, David (Betty) Duke of Vernon, AL and Brandon Duke of Banner, MS; two grandchildren, Jolie and Derrick Murphy; one nephew, David Duke, Jr.; five nieces, Priscilla Duke, Dawn Duke, Nicole (Josh) Burton, Breanna Duke, and Mackenzie Duke; six great-nephews; and one great-niece.
