Obituary

Mr. Howard Lewis Reeves, age 83 of Vernon, AL, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014, at his residence.

Mr. Reeves was born December 21, 1930, in Lamar Co, AL, to the late Lewis Cebron and Ora Mae Jackson Reeves. He served in the U.S. Army and was a writer and editor for the Lamar Democrat. Mr. Reeves was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He had many hobbies that included building and flying remote control airplanes, the CB Radio Club, antique cars, the Lamar County Coin Club, and promoting the Backstreet Opry. Mr. Reeves served on the Lamar CB Radio Club, the Lamar County Coin Club, and one time on the Kawanis Club. He was also an Auxiliary trooper and served on the Vernon City Council. During his years as editor of the Lamar Democrat, Mr. Reeves wrote several self-published books.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00 at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with Max Bobbitt and Aubrey Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 1-2 at the church prior to the service.

Mr. Reeves is survived by his wife, Carolyn Reeves of Vernon, AL; his daughter, Renee Reeves of Vernon, AL; two brothers, Hershel (Carolyn) Reeves of Bessemer, AL and Jimmy (Carolyn) Reeves of Oxford, MS; and one sister, Mary Finch of Vernon, AL.
