Mr. James Edward "Ed" Walker, age 89 of Vernon, AL, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014, at his residence.
Mr. Walker was born October 21, 1925, in Vernon, AL, to the late Peter and Rosie Walker. He worked in Base Supply with the Department of Defense and retired on January 1, 1989. In addition to his parents, Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Walker; his son-in-law, Len Mitchell; two grandsons, Gregory Walker and Dylen Dudley; one great-grandson, Brent Turner; six sisters: Susie Cannon, Emma Johnson, Central Suddeth, Flora Bennett, Ventral McFarland, and Vera Davis; and six brothers: Willard Walker, John Walker, Herschel Walker, William Walker, Andrew Walker, and Rollie Walker.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 12:00 from the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home with Minister Johnnie Ray Dover officiating. Graveside services will follow at Furnace Hill. Visitation will be Tuesday 11-12 prior to the service.
Mr. Walker is survived by the following: wife, Ella Ree Walker of Vernon, AL; daughters Rosa Mitchell of Mt. Morris, MI, Annie Sue (Floyd) Johnson of Flint, MI, Edna Lee of Matteson, IL, and Linda Jackson of Vernon, AL; son, Johnny (Sarah) Orr of Tuscaloosa, AL; daughter-in-law, Mary Frances Walker of Vernon, AL; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his lifetime friend, Harold Lee Hill; his special friend, Mac Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
