Obituary
James Paul Shelnut, age 78 of Vernon, passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Generations of Vernon.
Mr. Shelnut was born July 14, 1930 in Lamar Co. to the late William David and Martha Viola Shelnut. He served in the Korean Conflict and was a retired factury worker at NACCO.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 at the First Freewill Baptist Church with Joe Beckon officiating. Burial will follow at Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Cemetery in Beaverton. Visitation will be 12-2 at the church prior to the service.
Survivors are five sons, David (Kathy) Shelnut, Daniel (Jackie) Shelnut, Demus (Selena) Shelnut, James Paul Shelnut, Jr., and Tommy Dale (Tracie) Shelnut; two daughters, Theresa (Donald) Taggart and Gail (Paul) Smith; two sisters, Ann Cantrell and Darlene Taylor; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Shelnut; his parents; five brothers; four sisters; and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Freewill Baptist Building Fund.
