IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janet
Benton
January 3, 1941 – August 2, 2025
Janet Morris Benton, of Vernon, AL, was born January 3, 1941, to Azzie and Lea Morris of Winfield, AL. Janet entered her heavenly home on August 2, 2025. She passed from this world at her home of 59 years surrounded by her close family, and was welcomed to her heavenly home by her loving husband and many passed loved ones.
Janet was a bank teller at the Bank of Vernon for more than 20 years. She and her late husband Henry founded and operated Benton & Company and Henry's Car Wash in the local community. Janet was a long standing and active member of the First Baptist Church of Vernon since 1966, and taught Sunday school for more than 50 years. Her passion was winning her students to Jesus Christ. She served as the Wee Wisdom Day Care director for many years. Janet's church activities included senior adult ministry mission trips and her own personal passion for serving nursing home residents and home bound individuals.
Janet was known for her beauty inside and out, contagious smile, and infectious personality, and she was loved by all who knew her. She was a loving and exceptional mother, and a doting grandmother and great-grandmother who always spoiled her great-grandchildren. She left a piece of herself in each one of us that can carry on her legacy. We are blessed to have such a respectful and Godly example in our lives. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Winston Benton; her parents; her sisters, Marlyse Reed and Jimmie Lou Pierce; and her brother, Grant Morris.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 7, at 3:00 PM, at the first Baptist Church of Vernon, with Bro. Brandon Phillips, Bro. Keith Pennington, and Luke Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at Lamar Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the church 1:00-3:00 prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Scott King, Michael Matthews, Witten Matthews, Nathan Foster, Luke Pennington, and Brett Murry.
Janet is survived by two daughters, Gina (Jerry) Robertson and Jennifer (Keith) Pennington, both of Vernon, AL; five grandchildren, Bridget (Michael) Matthews of Vernon, AL, Scott (Cynthia) King of Vernon, AL, Janna (Nathan) Foster of Winfield, AL, Kaley (Brett) Murry of Lenexa, KS, and Luke (Amalia) Pennington of Cedar Hill, TX; and seven great-grandchildren, Witten and Allie Kate Matthews, Gracie and Maddie King, Lane Foster, and William and Henry Murry.
