Ms. Janice "Jan" Marie Barnes, age 77 of Vernon, AL, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at her residence.
Ms. Barnes was born January 19, 1940, in Lamar Co., AL, to the late Coy D. and Naoma Johnson. After many years of cooking and baking in her home, Ms. Barnes opened her bakery, Something Delious, in Vernon from 1986-1992. She was the author of four cookbooks and was the Child Nutrition Program South Lamar. Ms. Barnes was also preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Barnes, and James R. Barnes, Sr.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 from the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Ray and Ed Broadway officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening 5-8.
Survivors include one daughter, Carla Hamilton of Millport, AL; two sons, James (Tina) Barnes and Phillip (Joy Lynn) Barnes, both of Vernon, AL; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Shawn) McAdams, Lindsay (Jarrett) Loveless, Brandon Hamilton, Jaeger Barnes, Jerron Barnes, Matthew Barnes, and Carson Barnes; six great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Spencer, and Kailey Rose McAdams, and Jaxon, Sophie, and Maddie Loveless; one sister, Judy (Ricky) Mayers of Millport, AL; three brothers, Denny Ray (Theresa) Johnson of Tuscaloosa, AL, Roger (Rita) Johnson of Millport, AL, and Sammy Johnson of Millport, AL; and a host of other family and friends.
