A private service to celebrate the life of Janie B. Haught Kakas, age 61, of Tuscaloosa, AL, was held on Friday, February 2, 2018, at Chandler Funeral Home in Vernon, AL. Interment followed at the Shiloh Cemetery with Chandler Funeral Home handling arrangements. Officiating the service was Lisa Davis, Minister of Adults & Family with Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL.
Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Titus and Chapple Barnes of Vernon.
Survivors include her daughter, Mia Haught of Northport; sisters Kay B. Wilson (Bob) of Northport and Joanie B. Aderholt (Tom) of Birmingham; nephews Marty B. Wilson (Staci) of Northport and Adam T. Aderholt of Tuscaloosa; nieces Angel A. Baker (James) of Birmingham and Anna Kay Aderholt of Birmingham; great-nephews Shane Aderholt, Jackson and Crawford Wilson, and Ben and Bo Baker; great-nieces Bella Baker, Savannah Aderholt, and Addi Belle Wilson.
She attended the University of Alabama and graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Social Work. It was always her desire to help others. She co-owned day care centers with her sister Joanie in Vernon and Birmingham for many years. After relocating to Tuscaloosa in 2008, she was employed with Bradford Health Services in Tuscaloosa. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa, where she enjoyed her Sunday School class and singing in the choir. Her faith was strong and her belief in Jesus as her Savior was real. Her prayer was "God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference."
To know Janie was to love Janie. She will be truly missed by those who knew her best.
