Mrs. Janie Verdeen McClendon Walden, age 83 of Vernon, AL, passed away Monday, March 23, 2015, at Generations of Vernon.

Mrs. Walden was born December 29, 1931, in Lamar Co., AL to the late Frank and Etma McClendon. She was a nurse and a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Vernon and was married to the late Edward Walden. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Walden was also preceded in death by her brothers, Bill Haskett, Erbie McClendon, and W.C. McClendon; and her sister, Aleen Thornton.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 at the First Free Will Baptist Church where she will lie in state 10-11. Officiating ministers will be Joe Beckon, Frankie Rogers, and Eddie Rogers. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Sulligent. Visitation will be Wednesday evening 6-8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Walden is survived by two daughters, Diane (Ted) McGee and Carol (Ted) Collins both of Vernon, AL; her sister, Alice Burns of Vernon, AL; five grandchildren, Michael (Kim) McGee, Kelly (Kevin) Gunnels, Rendy (David) Gunnels, Trent (Tiffany) Collins, and Kari (Trae) Conner; 13 great-grandchildren, Luke Kelly, Justin McGee, Jade McGee, Ross Gunnels, Lee Kelly, Jesse Gunnels, Ella Gunnels, Sadie Brooke Collins, Riggs Conner, Maggie Jane Conner, Callaway Collins, Ron Schulz, and Kara Schulz; her honorary extended family, all the employees and staff of Generations of Vernon; and a number of nieces and nephews.
