Jean Elizabeth DuBose

Mrs. Jean Elizabeth DuBose, age 94, of Vernon, AL, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026.

Born April 14, 1931, in Amory, MS, to the late Jasper and Nettie Corbett Yerby, Jean lived a long and beautiful life marked by devotion—to her Savior, to her family, and to her community.

She was married for 47 years to the love of her life, Edd Cain DuBose. Their marriage was a steady example of commitment, faithfulness, and love. Together they built a family that became one of their greatest joys and proudest blessings.

Jean was kind, loving, and above all, faithful. She served her Savior well and lived a life that consistently reflected the faith she professed. A devoted member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Vernon, she faithfully volunteered in many roles over the years, including choir director, member of the Ladies' Auxiliary, and leader of the adult ladies' Sunday school class. She did not simply teach her faith — she lived it.

Her faith shone most clearly in her role as caregiver. Jean lovingly cared for and generously provided for family members and neighbors whenever needs arose. If someone was sick, hurting, or simply in need of encouragement, she showed up—with food, with help, with prayer, with Godly counsel, and always with love. Serving others was not something she did occasionally; it was simply who she was.

In addition to her heart for service, Jean had a love for travel. She enjoyed taking trips with family and travel groups to many destinations. Her trips to Montana and Branson, MO, were among her favorites, each holding special memories of laughter and time well spent with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edd Cain DuBose; her parents; her sisters, Peggy Caraway, Neva McCowan, and Edna Mitchell; and two brothers, Cecil Yerby and Prentice Yerby.

Those left to carry on her legacy include her children, Wesley (Deborah) DuBose, Amanda (Mike) Freeman, and Karla (Greg ) Norton; her grandchildren, Myra (John David) Slayton, Jonathan (Katlyn) Norton, Andrew (Kelsey) Norton, Justin (Jessica) Freeman, Jonas (Kayla) Freeman, Jessica (Nathan) Freeman, John (Casey) Coats, and Ashley (Analia) Sebrenik; her 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Yerby; and many extended family members and dear friends.

While her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the assurance that she is now in the presence of the Savior she loved and served so faithfully. Her life leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, steadfast faith, and unwavering love that will continue for generations.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, February 13, at 3:00 PM, at the First Free Will Baptist Church, with Bro. Joe Beckon and Bro. Mike Dankson officiating. Burial will follow at the Liberty Free Will Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00-3:00 at the church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alabama Free Will Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 8, Eldridge, AL 35554, or go onlline to www.fwbhome.org.
