Mrs. Jean Smith, age 86 of Vernon, AL, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

Mrs. Smith was born November 30, 1929, to the late David Burt and Eunice Hester and was married to the late Connie Smith. She was a seamstress and was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Vernon. Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by an infant daughter; one son, David Smith; one granddaughter; two great-granddaughters; four sisters, Eliza Jane Glasgow, Bessie Roberts, Gladys Shackleford, and Vinnie Lee Smith; and one brother, James Felton Hester.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Vernon with Bro. Joe Beckon officiating. Burial will follow at Wofford Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church Tuesday 10-11 prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Zadus Turner, Jr., Bobby Turner, Demus Shelnut, James Shelnut, Edwin Collins, and Harold Bozeman.

Survivors include two daughters, Liz (Jerry) Mays and Kathy (David) Shelnut, both of Vernon, AL; two sons, Jerry (Barbara) Smith of Northport, AL and Paul (Gail) Smith of Hazlehurst, GA; a daughter-in-law, Ann Smith of Amory, MS; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
