Mrs. Alma Jean Walker, age 96 of Vernon, AL, passed away Friday, December 23, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.
Mrs. Walker was born October 19, 1920, in Jasper, AL, to the late Felix and Altie Gardener. She served in the U.S. Army and was a bookkeeper for McCoy Manufacturing. She also enjoyed spending time with people and did 1500 hours of volunteer work at the hospital. Mrs. Walker was also preceded in death by her daugher, Kimberley Walker, and her brothers and sister.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00 at the First Baptist Church of Vernon with Randy Tollison and Clyde Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Furnace Hill. Visitation will be Monday 1-2 at the church prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Smith, Jeffrey Hattaway, Justin Perkins, Tony Perkins, Jacob Perkins, and Jason Hattaway.
Survivors include her husband, Lewis Walker of Vernon, AL; two daughters, Peggy (John) Rowe of Vernon, AL and Judy (Kenneth) Hattaway of Arley, AL; five grandchildren, Ricky (Lin) Minor, Stacey (Tony) Perkins, Gina (D.J.) Pitts, Jason (Amber) Hattaway, and Jeffrey (Michelle) Hattaway; ten great-grandchildren, Justin (Courtney) Perkins, Jacob Perkins, Olivia Hattaway, Presley Hattaway, Houston Advent, Dalton Advent, Tyler (Cassie) Smith, Haley Minor, and Andy Minor; and four great-grandchildren, Lawson Perkins, Bryleigh Perkins, Tatum Perkins, and Hunter Sean Smith.
