Mr. Jim D. Burnett, age 84 of Vernon, AL, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019, at his residence.
Mr. Burnett was born February 11, 1935, in Lamar Co., AL, to the late Frank and Bertha Burnett. He graduated from Sulligent High School and attended Brewer State Jr. College. Mr. Burnett later served in the U.S. Army and attended Memphis State University School of Banking. He served as president of Citizens State Bank for a number of years and also served on the board of the Department of Human Resources and Vernon Water Board. Mr. Burnett was a member of the Vernon Lions Club, Masonic EMS, and the Alabama Bankers Association. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Vernon for over 50 years and was the Sunday school director for 26 years.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 15, at 2:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church of Vernon, with Clyde Stephens and Benton Goodman officiating. Burial will follow at Lamar Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Monday 1:00-2:00 at the church prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Freddie Burnett, Jeff Miller, Bruce Burnett, Eddie Holley, Danny Hollis, and Rod Helms.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Burnett, of Vernon, AL; two sons, Anthony Burnett and Joseph Burnett, both of Vernon, AL; two grandchildren, Ty and Ali Burnett, of Fayette, AL; and one sister, Anne (Leon) Hollis of Sulligent, AL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the First Baptist Church in Vernon, P.O. Box 430, Vernon, AL 35592.
