Mr. James "Jim" Hammett, age 64, of Vernon, AL, passed away Friday, April 18, in Columbus.

Jim was born in Aliceville, AL on June 18, 1960 to Mary Hammett and the late Horace Hammett. He furthered his career at Shelton State, where he developed his lifelong trade as an electrician. Jim devoted 32 years in the National Guard, doings two tours oversees, defending his country.

He was married to Kathy for 39 years, and was a loving father and grandfather to Kandace, Aiden, Hunter and Ronnie Haze. Jim was the first to make people laugh and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In addition to his wife and father, he was also proceeded in death by his grandson, James Liam Allen.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 25, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Joe Moseley and George McLaurine officiating.  Burial will follow at Furnace Hill.  Visitation will be 12:00-2:00 prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Michael Martin, Hugh Snoddy, Kenny Long, Brad May, Jeremy Glasgow, Micah Carter, Jason Hattaway, and Crawford Bostick.

He is survived by his daughter, Kandace Hight, of Vernon, AL; his mother, Mary Hammett; three grandsons, Aiden Dill, Hunter Allen, and Ronnie Haze Allen; two brothers, Ben Hammett and Bill Hammett, both of Gordo, AL; one sister, Julia Martin, of Gordo, AL; his nephews, Chris (Lezette) Martin, Tommy (Tina) Martin, Michael (Mary) Martin, Scottie Glasgow, and Brad (Brittney) May; his nieces, Kisha Cantrell, Jade (Blake) Bostick, and Holly (Chris) Reese; and a host of other family and friends.
