Obituary

Mr. Jimmy Rolf McDaniel, of Vernon, AL, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. McDaniel was born August 4, 1944, in Bankston, AL, to the late Rolf Gordon and Hazel Moore McDaniel.  Mr. McDaniel worked for Warren Brothers in Columbus, MS, later known as APAC Mississippi Inc., from which he retired in 1996 as a supervisor.  After retirement, he owned and operated the Quail Connection in Vernon and worked for the Lamar County Board of Education as a school bus driver until he retired from that position in 2021. For 30 years he was an unofficial employee of the Kountry Kitchen helping Ms. Sarah, especially as the Chief Tater Peeler.  Mr. McDaniel was a faithful member of Springfield Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.  He enjoyed deer. quail, and turkey hunting, and spending time with his family.  He was also preceded in death by his son, James Gordon McDaniel, and his brother, Ted McDaniel.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 15, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Bro. John Johnson and Bro. Gary Seay officiating.  Burial will be follow at Furnace Hill.  Visitation will be 12:00-2:00 prior to the service.

Active pallbearers will be Byron McDaniel, Daniel Fondren, Paul Hopper, Joe Paul Hopper, Harold Partain, Lee Hopper, Charlie Gallop, and Ray Kilpatrick.  Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Fondren, Carroll Gibson, Charlie Waldrop, Chris Waldrop, Wayne Gilreath, Rusty McCombs, Chris Jones, Jim Wright, Ross Hudson, Rickey Moore, and John Pennington.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sarah McDaniel, of Vernon, AL; two daughters, Melissa McDaniel of Vernon, AL and Michelle (Kevin) Phillips of Kennedy, AL; one grandson, Jon Dylan McDaniel, of Vernon, AL; one sister, Debbie (Tommy) Fondren, of Caledonia, MS; a family friend, Nancy Welch; his aunt, Carol (Charley) Waldrop; three sisters-in-law, Joyce (Carroll) Gibson, Wanda Boone, and Jackie McDaniel; a host of nieces and nephews; and his nurses and aids from Amedysis Hospice, Barbara, Melanie, Kandi, and Brittany.
