Mr. Jimmy Rex Ray, age 86 of Vernon, AL, passed away Sunday, October 29,2017, at his residence.
Mr. Ray was born October 26, 1931, in Hackleburg, AL, to the late Plumer J. and Reecie Helen Ray. He served in the U.S. Army and Korean War, then later worked as a farmer and custodian at Hackleburg High school. Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Carl Ray, Fermon "Shorty" Ray, Emmitt Ray, Conder Pete Ray, Owen Ray, and Paul Ray; and three sisters, Lois Young Hughes, Ruth McCall, and Mildred Hire Fleming.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 at the First United Methodist Church in Vernon with Patrick Cooley officiating. There will be a graveside service between 3:30-4:00 at the Cedar Tree Cemetery in Hackleburg. Visitation will be Wednesday evening 6:00-8:00 at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Ray of Vernon, AL; one daughter, Susan (Sam) Durham of Vernon, AL; one grandson, Justin Ryan (Amy) Durham; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Ryan Durham; two sisters, Ann (David) Vickery and Guynell (late G.H.) Sanders; two brothers, Wayne (Lela) Ray and Max (late Carol) Ray; a special friend, Charles (JoAnn) Burnell; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
