Mr. Joe Price Hopper, of the Molloy community near Vernon, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017, at the age of 94, at Generations of Vernon.
He was born March 9, 1923, the fourth of five children of Grover C. Hopper, Sr. and Lula J. Hopper. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and worked in Waterville, Washington on a government construction project, then joined the U.S. Navy, where he served as a medical corpsman for 6 years during WWII, spending time in New Zealand and aboard the USS Wisconsin and USS Wilkes-Barre. Upon completion of his service, he returned home to the Molloy community and married Pauline Freeman. They were married almost 48 years before her death in 1996. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Paula Jo. He was a carpenter, and built more than 120 houses.
He is survived by two sons, Glenn (Lenora) Hopper and Paul (Tina) Hopper; two grandchildren, Christina (Jeff) Wallace and Joe Paul Hopper; and a great-grandson, Jack Wallace.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 26 at Chandler Funeral Home in Vernon. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM with Bro. Arnold Sheets officiating. Burial will be in Lampkin Cemetery in the Molloy Community.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Betts, Harold Hopper, Henry Bush, Larry Northam, Carroll Gibson, Thomas Cowart, Fred Moore, and Dale Hollis.
