John Roy Welch

Mr. John Roy Welch, age 78, of Fayette, AL, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2026, at his residence.  

Mr. Welch was born May 20, 1948, in Cullman, AL, to the late Roy Avery Welch and Faye Baldridge Welch, and worked as a mechanic.  He was also preceded in death by his one grandchild; one great-grandchild; his brother, DeWayne Welch; his sister, Joyce Swann; his aunt, Betty Welch; and his grandparents, Sam Stanley Welch, Sr. and Ola Mae Welch.

Funeral services will be Sunday, August 9, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Bro. James Godsey officiating.  Burial will follow at Walnut Grove.  Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 prior to the service.

Active pallbearers will be Jacob Bozeman, Josh Welch, Caleb Gann, Josh Murphy, Benji Welch, Eric Merchant, Devin Martin, and C.J. Chandler.  Honorary pallbearers will be Evan Chandler, Rodney Welch, D.J. Myrick, and Tanner Myrick.

Survivors include three sons, Joey (Shelly) Welch, John (Chrissy) Welch, and Roy (Cassie) Welch; four daughters, Debbie Merchant, Jeannie (Roger) Weeks, Sandra (David) Myrick, and Amanda Welch; 27 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mitchell (Jean) Welch and Steve (Ann) Welch; and a host of other family and friends.
