Kay Denman Box Sanford, age 77, of Vernon, AL, passed away on December 11, 2015. She was the eldest of two children born to W.C. Box and Lorene Hankins Box.
Kay was born March 28, 1938. Her early childhood was spent on the Box family farm in the Bedford Community of Lamar County. The family later moved to Vernon, AL where she attended school and graduated from Lamar Co. High School in 1956. She attended the University of Alabama. Kay married Emmett Cecil Sanford, Jr. in June 1957. As a young married couple, they lived in Bessemer, AL and in Warren, OH.
Kay was an active member of the Vernon Church of Christ. She was also an active member of the Vernon Study Club, the PTA, and the band boosters. Kay was a sweet and loving lady, and will be missed by her friends and family. She loved to travel and was an expert at crossword puzzles.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett C. Sanford, Jr. The were married 54 years.
Graveside services will be Sunday at 2:00 at Vernon City Cemetery with Eddie Finch officiating.
Survivors include three children, Sheril Anne Sanford Wilson (Freddie) of Destin, FL, Emmett Barry Sanford (Shannon) of Columbus, MS, and Lori Denman Sanford Dolan (Bobby) of Florence, AL; eight grandchildren, Amanda Lorene Wilson Delchamps (Lee), Jessica Michelle Wilson, Victoria Chelsea Wilson, Stephen Barrett Sanford (Jenny), Skyler Kay Sanford Thomas (Brian), Bobby James Dolan, III, Caroline Denman Dolan, and Katherine Helen Dolan; four great-grandchildren, Jedi Stone Sanford, Cully Cross Sanford, Oliver Wilson Delchamps, and Cecillia Anne Delchamps; one sister, Sheril Box Townsley (Bill) of Huntsville, AL; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Fayette Long Term Care Center for their excellent care of Kay, with a special thanks to Monica for her loving attention.
