Mrs. Laura Thornley White, age 88 of Vernon, AL, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Generations of Vernon.

Mrs. White was born June 22, 1928, in Lamar Co., AL, to the late John Thomas and Mary Thornley. She was a secretary at Lamar Heating and Cooling and was a long time member of Oakes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Oakes was preceded in death by her husband, Rex White; her daughter, Marilyn Christian; three sisters, Nina Monroe, Jimmie Nell Cribbs, and Jo Ann Yearby; and one brother, James Thornley.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 3:00 in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home with Tony Gallop, James White, and Joe Moseley. Burial will follow at Furnace Hill. Visitation will be Sunday after 1:30-3:00 prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Shane Oglesby, Steve Oglesby, Corey White, Edward Barnes, Tyler Mills, and C.J. Oglesby.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn (Jimmy) Oglesby of Columbus, MS; two sons, Al (Tammy) White and Lynn (Donna) White, both of Vernon, AL; one son-in-law, Ricky Christian of Birmingham, AL; six grandchildren, Shane (Debbie) Oglesby, Steve (LeaAnn) Oglesby, Corey White, Kaitlyn White, Anna Catherine White, and Nikki Pruitt; eight great-grandchildren, Erin (Kyle) Taylor, C.J. Bell, C.J. Oglesby, Aaron Oglesby, Riley Oglesby, Hughes Oglesby, Amelia Jane Oglesby, and Rylan Franks; one great-great-grandchild, Braxten Taylor; one sister, Betty Barnes of Fayette, AL; and one brother, Buddy Thornley of Texas.
