Obituary

Herein we remember and honor Mrs. Lavida Robin Nethercutt, age 66, of Kennedy, AL who passed from this world on Monday, October 6, 2025 at UAB hospital in Birmingham, AL.

Lavida was born December 22, 1958, in Albuquerque, NM. She was the loving daughter of Ray (Smokey) Trull and the late Mary Trull of Kennedy, AL.  Before retirement, Lavida was the manager of the Columbus Air Force Base Commissary.

During her spare time, and later in her retirement, the one thing Lavida enjoyed most here on this earth was time spent with her family and friends.  Whether traveling or at home, she was truly the heart of her family, the glue that held all of us together.  As a wife, she was forever faithful and spoiled her husband Terry even when she wasn't feeling her best.  As a mother, her love was a constant, steady force that molded, supported, and guided her children Amanda and Will, through all of life's joys, as well as challenges.  She loved her family, both immediate and extended, with every fiber of her being! She made it her mission to encourage closeness among family members by keeping family gatherings a
priority.  Lavida was always more than willing to provide her house as the gathering place! Even the day before her passing, she was planning family Thanksgiving and Christmas festivities while lying in her hospital bed.  Few things brought her more joy than quietly sitting in the corner of her living room watching and listening to a house full of family as they were chatting, laughing, and making memories.  The smile that family brought to her face created a warmth that could be felt throughout the room.  No one ever felt like a stranger or unwelcomed in Lavida's home.

Perhaps what stood out most about Lavida's life was her relationship with Jesus.  She was very vocal about her love for the Lord and she openly gave Him the praise for all the blessings in her life.  Lavida was a devoted Christian who started each day reading her Bible and lived each day by doing whatever she felt God was leading her to do.  Her love for God was visible to others in her true servant's heart. It was her generous heart that compelled her to give of her time, her talents, and her love not only to her family, but to her community, her church, and most of all, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Lavida most often gave to others by cooking for them! One might say that cooking for others was her love language!
She cooked for her husband, kids and grandkids every Monday evening in a tradition she created known as "Family Night."  She allowed very few things to interfere with this special evening to sit around the dinner table together.  She also cooked and delivered special dishes to family members on their birthdays.  She cooked for her church family once a month, and she always volunteered to prepare the main dish of the meal for any family gathering that she planned!  Anyone who was fortunate enough to eat from Lavida's table would agree that she was an amazing cook and receiving food from her was truly a gift of love!  She found that one way she could show love to everyone in her life was by cooking for
them, something that all of us will greatly miss about her.

Lavida's love for others extended beyond her family, though. While she allowed her talent for cooking to be used as an outreach, she was also a great listener to those who needed to talk, a confidante to those who needed a trustworthy friend, and a prayer warrior for those who needed prayers.  She had a gift for making everyone feel accepted and welcome, turning strangers into friends with her warmth and genuine interest in their lives.  In one way or another, she touched the life of everyone she met! Without a doubt, to know Lavida Nethercutt was to love Lavida Nethercutt!

Lavida taught the most valuable lessons in life through her actions. She showed all of us the power of kindness, the importance of integrity, the strength in humility, and the necessity for a daily and faithful walk with God! Her resilience in the face of adversity was inspiring, her grace in handling life's curveballs remarkable. If she could leave us all with one final piece of her wisdom, she would tell us to be sure we have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ because in Him she found the true source of all her strength! "I have fought the good fight. "I have finished the race. I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

Lavida will be greatly missed by those she is leaving behind. Her survivors include her husband, Terry Nethercutt; her father, Ray Trull; one daughter, Amanda(Mike) Maynord; one son, Will(Rebekah) Nethercutt; three grandchildren, Bryant and Emilee Smith, and GreenLee Nethercutt; two brothers, Mark (Annette) Trull and Ray (Melanie) Trull, three sisters, Lisa Trull, Vanessa (Thomas) Clay, and Valarie (Brett) Walker, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and great nephews.

On Friday, October 10 at 1:00 PM, Lavida's friends and family will gather with heavy, yet peaceful hearts in the Chapel of Chandler Funeral Home to remember and honor the amazing lady we all knew and loved.  Lavida's pastor, Bro.
