Miss Martha Varnon, age 90 of Vernon, AL, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Generations of Vernon.

Miss Varnon was born April 10, 1924, in Starkville, MS, to the late Albert Craig and Annie Lee Varnon. She was a child care taker and was a member of the Vernon Church of Christ. Miss Varnon enjoyed keeping children and was a grandmother figure to the many children she kept over the years. She also enjoyed helping to prepare and serve lunch at the Vernon Community Center and spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Miss Varnon was also preceded in death by three sisters, Hilda Higgins, Kittie Rose Chandler, and Nora Lee Varnon, and one nephew, David Higgins.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2:00 in the funeral home chapel with Craig Chandler and Eddie Finch officiating. Burial will follow at Meadow Branch Cemetery in Kennedy. Visitation will Friday 1-2 prior to the service.

Miss Varnon is survived by her nephew, Allen (Ernestine) Chandler of Vernon, AL; her niece, Jane (Roger) Cleveland of Virginia Beach, VI; five great-nephews; three great-nieces; and a number of great-great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
