Mrs. Mary Ethel Boyd, age 93, of Caledonia, MS, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Generations of Vernon.

Mrs. Boyd was born November 9, 1929, Slate Spring, MS, to the late Ozro and Myrtle Burns.  She attended Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, MS, where she graduated with her Bachelor's degree in 1951 and obtained her Master's degree shortly after from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  She had a love for teaching and taught typewriting and business courses at many different schools throughout her careet.  Mrs. Boyd had a love for the Lord and was a devout Christian and devoted member of Twelfth Street Baptist Church in Gadsden, AL and later of New Salem Baptist Church Church in Caledonia, MS.  In recent years, she attended Bethel Baptist Church in Columbus, MS.  Mrs. Boyd was married to the love of her life, the late Harley Lee Boyd, of Columbus, MS.  She is also preceded in death by her son, James Walter Boyd.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 2, at 11:00 AM at the New Salem Baptist Church in Caledonia, with Mel Howton and Walter Butler officiating.  Burial will follow at the Egger Cemetery in Caledonia.  Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 at the church prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Rick Conner, Frank Dowdle, Sam Dowdle, Roger Puhr, Chuck Putt, and Jason Scallions.

Mrs. Boyd is survived by her sister, Ann B. Dowdle; her two granddaughters, Marion Risa Pippen and Erin Leigh Boyd; two great-grandchildren, Nichalas Shane San Souci and Aviana Rose San Souci; and her nieces and nephews.
