Mrs. Mary Lee Gilmer, age 100 of Sulligent, AL, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Mrs. Gilmer was born August 22, 1918, in Lamar Co., AL, to the late Clinton Leroy and Rachel Adeline Kennedy. She was a homemaker and was married to the late George Gray Gilmer. Mrs. Gilmer was a member of the Vernon First United Methodist Church and enjoyed being with her family and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gilmer was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Julia Maddox and Helen Chandler.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00 in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home with Patrick Cooley officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Baptist Cemetery in Sulligent. Visitation will be Saturday 1:00-2:00 prior to the service.
Mrs. Gilmer is survived by her children, Donald Gray (Nan) Gilmer of Charlotte, NC, Marianne Land (Phillip) Taylor of Duluth, GA, Josephine (Randy) Byrd of Vernon, AL, and David (Lin) Gilmer of Sulligent, AL; nine grandchildren, Donald Gray Gilmer, Jr., Douglas Alexander (Jenie) Gilmer, Mark Douglas (Stacy) Land, Thomas Gray (Lesley) Land, Leanna Gilmer Land (Jason) Jimerson, Amy Lyn Northam (Patrick) Plourde, Charles Bradley (Tracey) Northam, William David (Joni) Gilmer, and Lydia Ann Gilmer (Gavin) Hatcher; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Hunter C. Kennedy; and a host of other family and friends.
