Mrs. Mary Joyce McGee, age 86 of Vernon, AL, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Fayette Medical Center-DCH.
Mrs. McGee was born September 16, 1930, in Lamar Co., AL, to the late William Jasper and Violet Jane Brown. She had many talents that allowed her to hold jobs in various manufacturing settings and was the activities director at Aurora Rehab and Lamar County Convalescent Center prior to retirement. She was also a faithful member of the Vernon Church of Christ. Mrs. McGee enjoyed being with her family, singing, camping, and playing dominoes. She was a grandmother figure to many who fondly knew her as "Gee".
In addition to her parents, Mrs. McGee was preceded in death by three brothers, Elton Brown, Rushton Brown, and Dolton Brown; and seven sisters, Ruby Wright, Myrtle Watson, Dessie Bobo, Ann Price, Margie Hall, Thelma Hedrick, and Cora Brown.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home with Eddie Finch officiating. Burial will follow at Furnace Hill. Visitation will be Thursday evening 7-9.
Pallbearers will be Bryan McGee, John Ross Johnson, Andy Robertson, Marcus Brown, Ronnie Brown, and Chad Rogers.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, John Robert McGee of Vernon, AL; one daughter, Portia Johnson of Vernon, AL; two sons, Robert Dale (Sheryl) McGee of Jackson, MS and Ricky McGee of Vernon, AL; three grandchildren, Ashley (Daniel) Pebbles, Bryan McGee, and John Ross Johnson; one great-granddaughter, Charley Pebbles; and three great-grandsons, Colin Pebbles, Brodi McGee, and Braner McGee.
