Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Michael Glasgow II, known as Michael or Mike, at the age of 52. Mike was born on January 28, 1972 in Amory, MS to Mike and Peggy (Pennington) Glasgow.

Mike grew up in Vernon, AL where he attended Vernon Elementary School and Lamar County High School.  He played saxophone in the band for 8 years and made lifelong friendships. Mike was a rare and sweet soul, even as a teenager, and was always laughing and encouraging others. He was so good to his many friends who still remember him fondly.

After graduating high school in 1990, Mike served in the United States Army for 7 years.  He was first stationed at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL, before spending a year in Seoul, South Korea, where he had the unique experience of visiting the demilitarized zone at the North Korean border.  Mike's final posting was at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, where he was honorably discharged as a Corporal.

San Antonio became Mike's home, and it was there he made the best decision of his life—marrying his beloved wife, Holly (Cliett), in 2003.  They were married for over 21 years and raised 2 beautiful children: Claire, a 20-year-old college student, and Ford, a 13-year-old 8th grader.

Mike's career was as varied as his talents.  In the Army, he worked on the Hawk missile system and later in medical supplies.  After his service, he travelled the country working as a radio and satellite engineer before starting his own home renovation business in San Antonio.  He was a valuable and beloved resource for his clients.

Mike had the remarkable ability to fix almost anything.  He loved restoring old cars in his garage and tinkering around on anything else he could find.  Mike loved music, his pets, having fun with friends, and above all, he adored his wife and children.

One of Mike's proudest accomplishments was volunteering in Honduras after the Hurricane Mitch devastation in the late 1990s, helping a town that had lost its clean water supply. He designed and installed a water purification system an entire town could use until their running water was restored.  As with everywhere he went, Mike made friends there who still speak glowingly of him.

In the later years of his life, Mike faced numerous health challenges, and ultimately, it was the one thing he couldn't fix. He passed away from a heart attack at his home in San Antonio on October 1, 2024.

Mike is survived by his loving parents, Mike and Peggy (Pennington) Glasgow of Vernon, AL; his devoted wife, Holly (Cliett) Glasgow; his cherished children, Claire and Ford Glasgow, all of San Antonio, TX; his sister, Julie (Glasgow) Franklin and brother-in-law, Lenny Franklin, of Nashville, TN; his brother, Jesse Glasgow, and sister-in-law, Sonya (Hulsey) Glasgow of Snellville, GA; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Mike will be interred with Military Funeral Honors at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and at Christian Chapel Cemetery in Vernon.
