Mildred "Millie" Jay, 63, passed away in her home in Vernon on July 20, 2018.

Millie was born April 24, 1955, in Columbus, Mississippi, to Bankston Holder Hollis and Floy Mae Stockman.  Being the youngest of seven siblings, Millie grew up spunky and always spoke her mind – a confidence she carried with her throughout  life.

Millie was a sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a warm hug, a shoulder to lean on, a selfless giver -- the matriarch of the family.  Millie was known to her loved ones as "Memaw," as she dedicated her time to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always took time to make sure each one of her "babies" knew how much she loved them.  Millie will be remembered for the things she enjoyed: spending time with her family, cuddling with her dogs, Buddy and Sadie, sharing her favorite memories of JR and sherbet ice cream.

Millie was preceded in death by: her parents, Bankston Holder Hollis and Floy Mae Stockman; two siblings, Elizabeth Nolan and Robert Hollis; and her husband of 25 years, Ruben "JR" Jay.

She is survived by: four siblings, Rex Hollis (Patsy), Betty Faye Dawkins, AC Hollis, and Sarah Nordwall; her children, Tommy, Amanda (Mel), Eric, and Helena (Travis); her grandchildren Brittney (Ty), Megan (Chad), Kristen (Scooter), Jared, Caitlyn, Garrett, Declan, Connor, Genevieve, Tristan, Ruben, Breyden and Aichlin; great-grandchildren Tyler, Alivia, Jeremiah, Jaeden, Jayceon, Liam and Aubrey; as well as a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Asbury Methodist Church at 11445 County Road 9, Millport, Ala., at 11 a.m. on July 28, 2018.
