Nellie Carol DuBose, age 79, of Langston, AL, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021, in Huntsville, AL.

Nellie was born January 19, 1942, in Lamar County, AL, to the late Ezekiel and Flora Mae Duke.  She grew up in Lamar County, and graduated from Kennedy High School in 1960.  Nellie and her husband, Hoyt, were married May 20, 1960.

Nellie was so proud of her grandchildren, and was always sharing their accomplishments, goals, and the work ethic they exhibited.  She loved Molly.  That pup was her furry grandchild.  For a lady that used to say she was a cat person and not a dog person, Molly made her change her tune.  She was a true gem for her family, and was thought of as a second mom and grandmother to many nieces and nephews.  She was lovingly called "Grandma Aunt Nellie" by her great-great-nieces, Lita-Kate and Vivi Jane, and great-great-nephew, Teddy.

Nellie was a selfless lady with a steadfast commitment to family.  She was always positive and exhibited the power of optimism, handling herself with such grace, even in the most trying of times.  In all her actions, Nellie showed us what it means to love everyone, be loyal, be fair, and always have a sense of humor even in the most challenging of circumstances.  She touched the lives of all knew her.

Nellie was preceded in death by her son, Mark DuBose; her husband, John Hoyt DuBose; her parents, Ezekiel and Flora Mae Duke; her brothers, John A. Duke, Joe Duke, Jack Duke, and Britt Duke; and her sister, Fannie Dean Robinson.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 1, at 2:00 PM, at the Vernon Church of Christ, with Eddie Finch officiating.  Burial will follow at the Christian Chapel Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the church, 1:00-2:00, prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Scott Duke, Roy Duke, Van Duke, Brian Maddox, Blaine Harrison, Rick Harrison, Brody Gill, and Tommy DuBose.  Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Wesson and Ronnie DuBose.

Nellie is survived by her son, Jason (Kathryn) DuBose, of Huntsville, AL; her grandchildren, Dan (Ashley) DuBose of Huntsville, AL John Phillip DuBose of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Ella DuBose of Tuscaloosa, AL; her sister, Patricia (Jerry) Gill of Hueytown, AL; and a host of nieces and nephews whose lives she touched and will miss her immensely.
