Obituary

Peggy Joy Pennington, age 76, of Vernon, Alabama, passed away on November 28, 2025, from injuries sustained in a fall. She was born on June 23, 1949, in Vernon, Alabama, and remained deeply rooted in the community and faith that shaped her life.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Dollie Pennington; her sisters, Faye Greer and Vicki Pennington; and her beloved son, Michael Glasgow.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Mike Glasgow; her daughter, Julie Franklin and husband Lenny; her son, Jesse Glasgow and daughter-in-law Sonya; her daughter-in-law, Holly Glasgow; and her cherished grandchildren: Tucker Glasgow, Claire Glasgow, Sable Higginbotham, Preston Glasgow, Ford Glasgow, and Stella Glasgow.

Peggy began her education at a one-room schoolhouse in Molloy for first through third grades, then continued her schooling in Vernon, later attending Lamar County High School. She married the love of her life, Mike Glasgow, in 1965. After leaving school, she earned her cosmetology license and worked for several years at her mother's salon, Dollie's Beauty Bar. Together, Peggy and Mike raised three children: Julie, Michael, and Jesse.

When her youngest child began kindergarten, Peggy returned to education with determination and courage. She earned her GED, went on to college, and received her associate's degree from Brewer State Junior College. She later earned her bachelor's degree in Home Economics Education from Mississippi University for Women—an accomplishment that filled her family with great pride.

Peggy taught high school home economics before transitioning into bookkeeping, where she served multiple businesses with dedication and integrity. She was a devoted member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ, where her faith was evident in both her words and her life.

She will be remembered for her sweetness, friendliness, genuine spirit, and constant encouragement of others. Peggy always had a smile for everyone and showed remarkable strength and positivity throughout her health struggles.

Exceptionally creative, Peggy loved all things beautiful. She was a master seamstress who lovingly made clothes and costumes for her children and grandchildren and found a way to add her own special touch to everything she created. She delighted in adding beauty to her home and her wardrobe. A lifelong dreamer, she loved to travel and go on adventures with her children and friends, embracing life with wonder and joy.

Peggy's legacy is one of faith, perseverance, creativity, and love. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and her gentle spirit will live on in all who knew her.
