Mrs. Margaret Mary "Peggy" Hawkins, age 82, of Vernon, AL, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at her residence.

Mrs. Hawkins was born May 18, 1940, in Boston, MA, to the late John Pierre and Margaret Elizabeth O'Donnell.  After marriage, she moved with her husband, James, to Vernon, raising a family of six children. She was a seamstress at area garment plants, later working at and retiring from Chromalox.  A faithful member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ, she loved teaching Sunday School for many years.  Her hobbies included reading, especially her Bible, working in the yard and cheering on the New York Yankees.  Years ago, she enjoyed working with ceramics and sharing her works with friends and family.  She enjoyed visiting friends in the nursing home and meeting new people there, as well as visiting shut-ins at home.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawkins was  preceded in death by her husband, James Hawkins; her son, Brian Hawkins; two sisters, Mildred O'Donnell and Carol Perdek, and three brothers, Jack O'Donnell, Hugh O'Donnell and Thomas O'Donnell.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 4, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Travis Brown officiating.  Graveside services will follow at Christian Chapel Cemetery.  Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Patrick, Danny Patrick, Brian Smith, Adrian Smith, Brandon Smith, and Adam Harris.

Survivors include two daughters, Rita (Dan) Mills and Donna Jordan, both of Vernon, AL; three sons, Jimmy (Linda) Hawkins of Hamilton, AL, Jerry (Frances) Hawkins of Huntsville, AL, and Kenneth Hawkins of Vernon, AL; four grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Woods of New Port Richey, FL; and a host of nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.

The family would like to thank everyone for the calls, cards and visits.  Your kindness has made this much easier.  Thank you everyone.
