Mrs. Sammie Lee Elliott, age 92 of Vernon, AL, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, at Fayette Medical Center-DCH.

Mrs. Elliott was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Lamar Co., AL to the late Edgar and Effie Lonnie McDaniel. She enjoyed gardening, painting, and reading. Mrs. Elliott was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and Daughters of the Confederacy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie F. Elliott; son, Leonard Elliott; grandson, Alan Elliott; four brothers, Leon McDaniel, Lionel McDaniel, Monroe McDaniel, and Loman McDaniel; six sisters, Jessie Banks Johnson, Betty Sue O'Mary, Dezzie Ray Bradford, Tezzie May McDaniel, Jean Pinkerton, and Mary Lou Walters.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Jacob Elliott and Doug Bridges officiating. She will lie in state at the church 10-11. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening 6-8 at the funeral home.

Survivors include three sons, James (Geraldine)Elliott of Kennedy, AL, Daniel (Joy) Elliott of Vernon, AL, and Jerry (Linda) Elliott of Fayette, AL; two daughters, Sherry Yerby of Vernon, AL and Sandra (Daniel) Cunningham of Vernon, AL; daughter-in-law, Peggy Elliott of Vernon, AL; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
