Mrs. Alma Sue Allen, age 92, of Cullman, AL and formerly of Vernon, AL, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Woodland Village Nursing Home in Cullman.
Mrs. Allen was born February 6, 1931, in Lamar County, AL, to the late Kirby Thomas Mills and Effie Mays Mills. She was a bank cashier and Assistant Vice-President at Citizens State Bank. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vernon where she worked as secretary for several years. Mrs. Allen was married to the late Henry Allen, and they raised a number of foster children. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Mills, Bobby Mills, and Gene Mills; five sisters, Thelma Mills, Mildred Hackett, Mary Edgeworth Wilson, Gladys Bell, and Marie McNees; five nephews Jerry Edgeworth, Phil Mills, Pat Hackett, Timothy Mills, and Mike Crew; and one niece, Karen Stanfield.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 31, at 2:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church of Vernon, with Bro. Clyde Stevens, Bro. Mike Rogers, and Bro. Brandon Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Lamar Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 at the church prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Josh Allen, Kirby Allen, Steven Allen, Eddie McNees, Randy Bell, and Bob Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Bell, Pat McNees, Danny Mills, Robert Mills, Johnny Hackett, Ed Smith, Bill Smith, and Jon Smith, Joe Allen, and Allen Evan Crew.
Survivors include three sons, Bill (Thersa) Allen of Cullman, AL, Fred (Pam) Allen of Plano, TX, and Barry (Vicki) Allen of Lawrenceville, GA; fourteen grandchildren, Betsy (Matt) Sherwood, Rebecca (Jonathon) Merrey, Steven (Kelsey) Allen, Lindsay (Cody) Jackson, Tracey (Brandon) Strother, Kirby (Kate) Allen, Josh (Nasrenna) Allen, Anna Kate (Cliff) Carter, Katie (Cole) Hayes, Dylan Weber, Blake (Amy) Weber, Heather (Brandon) Brown, Nicole (Daniel) Poore, and Shawn (Scheryl) Hollingsworth; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jane Smith of Meridian, MS; a host of nieces and nephews; and a number of foster children she and Henry raised.
