Obituary

Ms. Terri Kay Walker Clark, age 52 of Vernon, AL, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021, at her residence.

Terri Kay was born November 6, 1968, in Vernon, AL, to Mrs. Helen Walker and the late John Walker.  She was a member of Vernon Chapel CME Church and accepted Christ into her life at a very early age.  Terri loved attending church and worshipping alongside her very special aunt, Martha Washington.  Terri Kay remained a faithful member of Vernon Chapel until God called her home.  She was a 1987 graduate of Lamar County High School, and was crowned the first black homecoming queen at the 1986 homecoming football game.  After graduating high school, Terri attended Bevill State Community College in Jasper, AL, where she received her Associates Degree in phlebotomy and became a traveling nurse.  After nursing, Terri received the blessing of becoming a mother to two sons, Chad and Jay, who she loved so very much.  She would later get to become a grandmother to a grandson, Elijah Walker, who she so lovingly called Boots.  She loved to spend time with him and spoil him every chance she could get.

Terri was preceded in death by her father, John Walker, and her aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 10, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Pastor Nell Johnson officiating.  There will be a wake Friday afternoon, 3:00-6:00 PM, at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Furnace Hill.

Pallbearers will be Vennie Pennington, Eric Nails, Rodney Pennington, Robert Love, Michael Cook, and Robert Shelly.  Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Washington, William Jenkins, Lee Turner, and Roosevelt Salters.  Flower bearers were friends and family.

Terri leaves to cherish her memory, her two sons, Chad T. Walker Hood and Darran J. Clark, Jr., both of Vernon, AL; her mother, Helen Walker, of Vernon, AL; one cherished grandson, Elijah T. Walker, who she called Boots; one sister, Pam Williams, of Vernon, AL; two brothers, Larry Smith and Donny Smith, both of Vernon, AL; two aunts, Martha (Joe) Washington of Vernon, AL and Florine Harrington of Indianapolis, IN; her cat Conner; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
