Mrs. Marie-Therese Mays, age 74 of Vernon, AL, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021, at her residence.
Mrs. Mays was born April 1, 1947, in Metz, France, to the late Paul and Germaine Martin of Metz, France. She moved to the United States in 1966 with her first husband and infant daughter, and became a U.S. citizen in 1973. Prior to retiring, Mrs. Mays worked at Chromalox as a lab tech and at Wal-Mart as a photo lab tech. She was a member of Musgrove Chapel in Winfield, and enjoyed attending Pleasant Grove Baptist Church when possible. Mrs. Mays also enjoyed spending time with her family, sitting on her deck watching her birds, and visiting Botanical Gardens all over the South. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Michelle Stoflique of Montpellier, France, and two brothers, Pierre Martin of Strarsbourg, France, and Andre Martin of Maizieres, France.
Funeral services will be Sunday, May 16, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Ed Nabors officiating. Burial will follow at Lamar Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday, 1:00-2:00, prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Foster, Cory Driver, Griffin Webb, Daniel Moore, Ronnie Cargile, and Barry Vice.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Leo Mays, of Vernon, AL; one daughter, Natalie (Phillip) Foster, of Kennedy, AL; one son, Shane (Melissa) Cantrell, of Winfield, AL; one step-daughter, Traci (Steve Bonds), of Hueytown, AL; one step-son, Todd Mays, of Hueytown, AL; six grandchildren, Brooke (Cory) Cantrell Driver, Nathaniel (Molley) Foster, Abby (Griffin) Webb, Daniel Moore, Ashley (Tanner) McMurry, and Zack Bonds; seven great-grandchildren, Braelynn and Everleigh Driver, Waylon and Annabelle Foster, Mila Jo and Mallie Jae McMurry, and Kynlee Driver; her close friends, Patsy Rogers and Donna Franks; several close family members, including the family of her first husband, Ronald Cantrell.
