Mrs. Violet Ruth Hollis, age 98 of Vernon, AL, passed away Friday, January 3, 2020, at Generations of Vernon.
Mrs. Hollis was born September 30, 1921, in Lamar County, AL, to the late Andrew Jackson and Vera Crossley. She was an instructor at the garment plant and was a member of Nebo United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds. Mrs. Hollis was also preceded in death by her husband, Milas Lee Hollis, Sr.; one grandson, Chris Hollis; two brothers, J.B. Crossley and John Edwin Crossley; and one sister, Lillian White.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Terry McAdams officiating. Burial will follow at Furnace Hill. Visitation will be Monday, 12:00-2:00, prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be David Sullivan, Gene Lollar, Jerry White, Joel Camp, Jerry Hollis, and Jimmy Hollis. Honorary pallbearers will be Therman Stephens, Todd Reeves, Jackson Hollis, Will Garrett, Donny Crossley, and Kenneth Crossley.
Survivors include one son, M.L. (Faye) Hollis of Vernon, AL; one daughter, Betty (Jimmy) Harris of Vernon, AL; two grandchildren, Kenny (Beverlee) Hollis of Sulligent, AL and Michelle (Lee) Garrett of Gordo, AL; and three great-grandchildren, Jackson Hollis, and Bella and Will Garrett.
