Obituary
Mr. W.B. "Sonny" Clearman, age 86 of Vernon, AL, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014, at his residence.
Mr. Clearman was born April 17, 1928, in Lamar Co., AL, to the late Worth Burness and Beuma Clearman. At age 12, Mr. Clearman started working for the family business, Clearman's Store, which had been by April 2014 in operation for over 115 years and which he later owned and operated. He served in Korea and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Clearman has won the Alabama Centennial Retail award since 1999 and was the Vernon Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2012.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 at the First Baptist in Vernon with Clyde Stevens officiating. He will lie in state at the church from 1-2. Burial will follow at Vernon City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening 6-9 at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Clearman of Vernon, AL; three sons, W.B. "Nick" (Cynthia) Clearman, III of Opelika, AL, Michael David (Gail) Clearman of Houston, TX, and James Curtis Clearman of Alabaster, AL; one sister, Ellen McEniry of Bessmer, AL; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
